There is also the case of A New Zealande who lost his hand, about 27 years ago. Two years after the surgery, the man had his new hand removed, having decided he could not live with the new limb, taken from a motorcyclist who died in a crash,!

Everything is on the table exept my eyeballs after I die.  According to my last tests my insides are in amazing condition ... if someone needs something to stay alive or improve their  life I would be happy to donate ... yay for them.

I have no idea how I feel about having someone else's body part in or attached to me because I have not crossed that bridge.

I agree with Vinny.  Medicine is amazing.

It would be nice of you to share!
    FISH-O

    OK... toothfairy and crumpets.

I have a bone from another person in my spine.  They were dead and didn't need it anymore.  I guess I would take a hand but only if they could make it somewhat functional...otherwise I'd use a prosthetic hand.  Mine are up for grabs when I die (I would stay away from my spine & hips though)

    lambshank

I have a very expensive device implanted in my spine, I would be more than happy if another could use it when my time comes
    doolittle

That's true- they can have the titanium in my spine too.

If you need you need, not exactly saving lives but if the glove fits and he keeps up the meds why not?

As long as it doesn't cost me!

ROMos, I have lost link where I posted reply, https://www.carrier.justanswer.com/ you do not agree, When I clicked on link, it transferrs to, Kato Technicion, where person types in the question, for the answer.

    (It did for me.)

    Still doesn't work, db!

Not a hand. Not exactly life threatening & they have had other appliances that work well for years. But eyes, kidney, liver or heart, yes,I'm all for it.

    Dollybird

Loss of a hand is not life threatening, but in so many cases required.

He was on the news last night, he says it feels just like his own hand, he was moving the fingers around. what next i wonder.i think I would like anything that made my life better.

If he was dead and it was Pee Wee Herman's hand, I'd feel terrible. I wouldn't be able to type that well on this site!

    Dollybird

Who is, was, Pee Wee Herman ?

Am i exception to the rule, i have Organ Donor on my drivers licence, i personally think it would be a great gift for someone, you don't need them, it could save a childs life, or any ones life , why do you all joke about some thing serious, if i said any thing about Pee Wee's hand i would get a warning, depends on who says it.

Clonge did not say anything insulting to any member on this board or to any race or nationality.
    bulletman

Actually i wasn't having a go at Clonge, i think what was said is in poor taste, that's water under the bridge now. 'MY serious side,' it just that organ donor is most likely the greatest gift you can give someone in need.

I would be very grateful, and also express this to the family given the opportunity, the same may be said for heart transplant recipients, liver, kidney etc. The person has no use for them any longer and the biggest gift they can give is that of life or an improved life to another, I take my hat off to all donors.A colleague at work tragically lost his 8 year old daughter in a car accident, he made the heartbreaking decision to have life support switched off, there are another 8 people that little one saved or helped in some way, her all too short life was not wasted.

    bulletman

Amazing what Donor Organs can accomplish, good to hear, Lamb.
    Dollybird

lambshank, my heart goes out to the family of that little girl, God Bless them. Even though the little girl saved 8 people, its not the same for her family, Im sure.
I am a registered organ donor I have always expressed that if anything were to happen to me that my organs be donated.

I think this is amazing and looking at how far medicine has come in many way it is a miracle, but it will be very interesting to see if his body rejects the hand or not.

I was a blood donor for several years and now signed as an organ donor. I would be thrilled to grant a better life to someone else, after I'm gone.
    doolittle

I have a gallon pin from giving a gallon of blood and I've given platelets...I can't give blood anymore either but I can donate my organs.
    Dollybird

wounderdyke, it appears, the man has little movement in his new fingers, its start.
    Deleted User

Wow so he actually has some movement? That's pretty cool considering that's all coming from the nervous system.. Will be like if you had and accident he would have to do a lot of rehabilitation before it works to a certain percentage , it's only the beginning. By the end of the year who knows he may be writing.. Thanks for that Dolly. Xo

I think its amazing, a bit creepy but amazing nonetheless.  I hope it works out!   Interesting, If i had a hand job (no pun intended) and I have a new hand from someone else, would I still be able to play a piano??  Hmmm..

I can't say that I can imagine. Although I do know that the first hand that I would shake would be my own:)

I cant imagine having someone elses hand. I would rather have no hand at all. Too creepy!.

    Dollybird

Saw pic of male on news, showing the hand, what caught my eye most was, the dirty finger nails, maybe it was part of the treatment, lets hope.

Years ago I watched the movie, "Hands of a Stranger", which I have written about here. A concert pianist is in a terrible accident and receives the hands of a convicted murderer who has been executed.  The hands function completely, but are not coordinated to play the piano anymore.  He goes mad, and uses his new hands to seek revenge on the man in whose cab he was riding when the accident occurred.  The cab driver was blinded.
It is just a horrid concept.
My cousin has had two kidney transplants.  An former friend's father had a heart transplant. I am an organ donor (hopefully the organs will be useful and healthy..like Fishlet's).
I would be incredibly thankful for "replacement parts" that might help me live a fuller life, if and when the time should come.

    Dollybird

I could go along with a heart transplant, but not sure about a hand. I would be woundering, where the hand has been. Thank you Bob for your reply.
    Bob/PKB

:D I'd expect that hand to be really, really clean before it got attached.
    FISH-O

Dollybird, we may not have the technology to make the hand work perfectly today but if we don't try in ten years from now we will be in exactly the same place. By going forward with these ideas we make progress and maybe in the future amputee children in third world and war stricken countries can benefit from the medical science trials and surgeries of today.
I too expect the hand would be really, really clean before attachment. Who knows, maybe that hand has saved thousands of lives, baked the most amazing deserts and held the leash of a wonderful dog for 12 years of walks.

    Feel better !!

    figtree3

    Ha ha. Simple as that.

I do not agree with donor organs of any kind. I would not accept a body part (no matter what part) from another person.

    Tommyh

I don't know that I would accept anyone elses organs either.Kinda like the idea of letting nature take it's course. But if anyone wants mine after I'm gone....Feel free I have no further use for them. Not that any of them would be any good anyhow.I think I've pretty much worn them all out.LOL
    Vinny

What do you think about blood transfusion??
    Colleen

    Moderator
It's the only thing I can find acceptable as blood cells eventually die off and new cells are created by ones own body.
    Tommyh

OK by me.I'd be dead now if it wasn't for transfusions.
    Vinny

Ok... I can accept that! To each his/her own.. Personally I don't have a problem with it, science and technology in future medicine will be unbelievable. What will be the real question is 'will Obama care allow for such ongoing life preserving technology' or will they say-- 65 years old, you're done, all we will give you is an aspirin, call me in the morning. If you're still alive.

Don't worry Tommy, Obamacare can not affect you. Obamacare is what will be used to bump off the 65 + year olds.
    Tommyh

That'll work good for Obama.("Till he turns 65)

He is exempt from his own healthcare. He gets the federal healthcare plan that all federal employees get. They are unwilling to give up that healthcare in favor of Obamacare. What does that tell you?
    Tommyh

For all the criticism it gets I beleive our aged care here in Oz is among the best in the world. When you're getting close, come & live here,We'll take care of you.LOL

I don't know.....I've heard the wait period to be seen there might take you past your expiration date anyway.
    Vinny

Dollybird... Of course i do, I believe in any kind of life saving treatments. I disagree with Colleen though, In (reverse), if my son needed a kidney and mine matched, you can bet your doodles I would give one kidney up for his survival. (reverse)-- Now for myself? I want to live just as anyone else and if they have a cadaver 'part' that will fit one me, go for it.. I want it. As for non life threatening 'replacement parts' like a hand? If it will better my quality of life having use of my hand (or someone else's hand attached to my wrist) I say great! Any organ/limb replacement that will give the receiving patient a better quality of life then its worth it. as for the dead donor, here in the USA, its a choice. They don't just use your body as a human parts department, you authorize this while alive.

Vinny, organ donations between family I agree with. Taking an organ from a stranger and not knowing his/her life and all that had affected them throughout their life, no. I believe that everything we live and feel is absorbed into our body and there it stays and festers if not acknowledge and dealt with. I believe a negative environment affects a body so much that some cancers can form and that cancer feeds from the negative atmosphere and attitude of the person. Since a body can be affected this much by environment, life style and mental attitude, I would not be comfortable with receiving an organ that I could never be sure was not tainted by a dark spirit, a troubled soul and the negative energy the organ would have absorbed. I'm not saying no one should donate organs and no one should receive them. I'm saying I do not believe in exchanging organs for the above reasons and I would not receive an organ from a stranger to save my life. I do not fear death so I would just go the way I was intended to go.

Wow! I'm almost 71. I guess I'm just completely useless now. Put me in that lineup at the old folk's home and shoot! Sadly, for all I am involved in, each week, it will take three "youngsters" to replace me! LOL!!!

Obamacare would only deny life saving treatment to an aged person who could no longer function independently. A person in a nursing home would be made comfortable but no measures would be taken to prolong their life. For now you would be safe Ducky if you had to live with Obamacare like our seniors do. This is all about Social Security. The faster the people die, the less money the government has to come up with to cover what the people put into the system from all their years working.
    Ducky

    Moderator
No health care system is perfect, not even ours, which has been in place for decades! Yes of course, it's about money and seniors and we DO live with that fact. However, when the day comes that someone, anyone, thinks that they can make decisions about who is "just kept comfortable" and who is actually treated, we will have one sick society, in more ways than one! Decisions about illness and aging are completely dependent on the age of the deciding person. (Fifty is very old to a 22 year old!)
    Colleen

    Moderator
Well, that day is here and it's in the form of Obamacare. It gives doctors the power to decide who lives and who just gets let go of. Families will not be able to fight it.
    Vinny

Wow Colleen-- I never thought of organs developing a personality. That's like way over my head! This means that if a murderer gives their kidneys, it's quite possible that the receiving person could also become a murderer because the spirit of the deceased murderer lives on. That's a scary thought!

what if Einstein gave his organs to a homeless derelict, would this derelict become a scientist?? Or if pavoriti gave his eyes to a blind person then the blind person could sing?? LOL! This is killing me. HA!! Sure puts a gap in the stem cell research. :)

@Vinny...I guess, following that theory, some on this forum would most definitely turn down any "Christian organs". Imagine suddenly getting that urge to go to church. Heaven forbid! (pun intended) LOL!!!
    Colleen

    Moderator
No Vinny, that's not what I mean. You're going to the extreme. I merely mentioned negative energy and the fact that a body absorbs that energy. Ducky, you have it wrong too. I never said anything about taking on the traits or beliefs of the donor. I'm not even going to continue this with people who just want to make a joke of what I believe on organ donation. I removed the target from my back a long time ago. Chuckle away. I'm out of this "funfest".
    Vinny

Oh Colleen, we just havin' some fun.. No harm or intentions of being condescending to your beliefs! of course you have the right to be genuine in your opinion and I respect that! And yes, I did take it to extreme, I apologize if you feel offended by it. You ought know me by now, I never waste an opportunity to make light of someone or something. I mean no harm, its just my nature to make people smile, sometimes i go to far and someone gets hurt and then i gotta jump on the 'sorry wagon'.. But, I can't help myself, it's just natural for me. If you knew me personally you would've smacked me in the face by now but I'd come up smiling and we'd still be friends. :)

I think i would like no hand at all.Rather than one that didn't match.

    bulletman

Are you saying you would not like a Harlequin set of hands.
    figtree3

How about a woman's hand?! Never mind.

Lord Winston ( a doctor) has said that the likelihood of full function returning to this man's hand is very slight and it will be little more than an ornament. Probably a prosthetic replacement would have been more useful.

I would like to give everyone a big hand for thier comments and ideas,in this matter,
