What does an ultrasound mean when it says: Within the upper pole of the right kidney is a hypoechoic region measuring approximately 1.9 cm with central focus of echogenicity. This likely representsw a prominent renal pyramid with central vessel. This is on a ten year old boy that has had bedwetting problems and is still having to wear pull ups at night. They have tried alarms and everything but nothing has helped the kid. He wets several times during the night.

First I must tell you that I am not a renal physician or a sonographer. I am in medicine and both kidneys have renal pyramids within them. They are normal anatomical structures. The rest I will leave up to the child's physician to explain- though, as I read what you wrote, nothing seems abnormal. I was a bed wetter as a child and I was a very deep sleeper. They gave some sort of medication that woke me up when I had to urinate. I do not know if this is the case with the child you speak of.

O menino pode ter um problema psicossomático que faz com que tenha esse problema.Eu e vários parentes, só resolvemos o problema perto dos quinze anos. Todos os da família vão vária vezes ao banheiro. Creio que precisa de acompanhamento uropsíquico. Preferi conservar o neologismo.
