Kindle Will Not Power On

Kindle's Layout
To turn on your Kindle, you must first understand the e-reader's layout. The front of the Kindle includes the reading screen; this is the dominant feature on the Kindle's front. Directly below the screen is a QWERTY-style keyboard. To the left of the screen you will find the Kindle's volume control, menu button and buttons that allow you to advance to the next page in your ebook, or return to the previous page. The power switch is found on the top of the Kindle, on the left-hand side.
Turning On Kindle
As long as your Kindle is operating correctly, turning the ereader on is a one-step process. Locate the on/off switch on the top of the Kindle. Slide the toggle-style switch to the on position, then release. This will not only turn the device on, but will also wake it up from its "sleep" mode.
Troubleshooting Tip #1: Charging Kindle
If your Kindle won't turn on by sliding and releasing the power switch on the top of the unit, make sure the device is charged. Amazon recommends charging your Kindle by connecting it to a working computer. Plug the USB cable that came with your Kindle into the e-reader and into your computer; make sure the computer is turned on and does not go into sleep or hibernate mode during the charging process. You will know your Kindle is charging when you see the words "USB Drive Mode" displayed on the screen and a charge light located directly next to the USB port on the bottom of the e-reader is illuminated.
Troubleshooting Tip #2: Disconnect Wi-Fi
When your Kindle's Wi-Fi connection is turned on, the unit uses more energy. If your Kindle powers down shortly after you turn it on, try turning off the Wi-Fi. Press the "Menu" button on the left side of your Kindle, and select "Turn Wireless Off." This should extend the battery life for the unit.
Troubleshooting Tip #3: Reset Unit
If problems persist, try resetting the device. First, remove the Kindle from any exterior power source. Next, slide the power switch and hold it for at least 15 seconds. Finally, release the switch. This completes the reset process; try turning your Kindle on again by sliding the power switch.
