Is it a good idea to become a web designer or web developer?

I have recently decided that I would like to become either a web designer or web developer...I spend quite a bit of time online and really would like to learn how to build my own website. I am thinking of taking a few courses at the Art institute of Washington so I can get a diploma in web design. I suppose I just wanted to ask if it would be worth while for me to do so? I see many job listing around the area for web designers so I wouldn't have a problem finding work if I have a good enough portfolio but is it a good career path to choose?

Pretty slick the way you managed to advertise your "marketing website" at the end of your explanation. Nice try but I have removed it. Use "Contact" at the bottom of this page, to inquire about advertising here. Sorry but it's not free.

    Nope!
    Don't want suspended.
    AGAIN!

I didn't notice the "sly advertisement", pretty crafty, I must say!!  Everyone has a use for everyone else, it seems today, huh?

Since today life involve constant use of the internet and websites, and many people and businesss need websites to promote themselves, I think that designing/developing  websites should be a good carier choice, especialy if you love that type of work.
In order to know if it is realy what you want to do for living, I think you should learn as much as you can about this proffetion and about what it includes, before you enter it.

Depends. I think it's a good direction if you want to be self-employed.

I did it backwards - started the website, first . Decided to contract out the design. As far as the code, (html, rss, etc.), I went with Site Build It and let them handle it.

It's exciting when you know the graphics and the html. Just don't get into a large student loan debt. Worse than credit cards.
