i have worked at a care home for the past 10 years which is a quarter of a miile from my home, i have been informed by my manager that they are making some changes and i have got to work in another home 25 miles away and they say i will not be getting any petrol or milage allowence can my employers do this to me ,is there anything i can do.

An employer is usually not obligated to provide a mileage allowance but generally provides it for those who actually use their vehicle for work. That is different from "driving to and from" work as it involves appointments with clients, delivering items, attending meetings, etc., all, on behalf of the company. I have never heard of transportation "to and from work" being paid by the employer.

He gave you an option. There isn't any work for you at your present location. If you don't want to move, let them fire you. You can draw unemployment while you look for a new job. Either that, or relocate. They must like you at your job, or they wouldn't have given you the option to stay with them.
