Gas--- Because you can control the heat visually-- also flame heat is even. Not to mention gas is cheaper than electric (in my location)
Electric is safer than gas..

I like electric but only because I've never had gas. (Stove gas, that is.)

Gas!!!!! If you can very quickly go from a rapid boil to a simmer with gas. With electric I had to use 2 burners to effectively do this.

We have had both in the two homes and one apartment of our married lives. I love gas as it is easier to control, and when it is off, it is off! Our daughter has electric, and when I babysit there use it to make lunch for the grand kids, and hate her stove! It takes longer to get up to what temp you think is correct, then more than not, it ends up too hot! I hate electric!!

Gas (or propane if you live out in the country here) is preferable to electric, for precisely the reasons Doolittle notes....instant adjustment of the temperature. I have electric where I am now.

I liked gas for years. Electric is ok, seems slow to get water to boil, but on the plus side is the microwave oven…heats bread in 15 seconds and defrosts a chicken breast in 3.5 minuets nicely. Then there is a convection oven that is amazing on baking at low cost. Some of these gadgets do some things really well and not well with other things. Coffee makers are a lost cause here due to the dissolved cement in the water requiring distilled water which I now produce. I use gas to grill meat outside so the house isn’t loaded with meat odors and smoke. There is a stove top burner on my gas BBQ that I use for anything that would fowl the air inside like making soap, cooking bacon or steaming wax out of a batiked fabric. Splattering grease is not something to do in a kitchen…what a mess!
