Yup, you need to purchase the land, hire a builder, choose (or create) a style/blue print, choose what materials you will use to build both the exterior and interior of the home, choose flooring/carpet/hardwood/ tile for the floors, windows and doors, cabinetry for the kitchen and bath, light fixtures, doorknobs, countertops for kitchen bath (and work room/garage) , appiances for kitchen, sins, toilet, and tubs for bathroo and wash room, washer, dryer, furnace,ac....also it's a ton of work....once you ahve hired the buildr and gone through all of this (whick is a loy reasearch...because there are hundreds of chices for each one. An architect needs to be a part of the project (usually) to create the blue print (and to point out structural changes that need to be made....check with town hall or the like about any stipulations, taxes, allowances, and permits....it;'s a lot of work!!! Buying a prehab home or double wide is another idea and finding a builder that has several different home styles to choose from with the abiliy to change thinsgs is also easy GOOD LUCK! PS I left out closets- make sure you have nice big closets!!!!
