The House Edge in Baccarat
by Jason Green of Predictem.com
Of all the casino games, besides craps, Baccarat has the lowest house edge. What this means is that the player has the best odds of winning money playing Baccarat than playing other casino games, such as Blackjack or Roulette, since the house edge of the casino is less.
When playing Baccarat there are three bets you can make, as you can bet on the Player’s Hand, the Banker’s Hand or the Tie bet. Each of the three bets in Baccarat has a different house edge percentage. The best odds for the player of the Baccarat game are betting on the Banker’s Hand. Conversely the worst odds for the player in the Baccarat game are for the Tie bet.
Here is the house advantage percentage for the three betting option in the game of Baccarat.
- The Banker’s Hand has a house percentage of 1.06%.
- The Player’s Hand has a house percentage of 1.24%.
- The Tie bet has a house percentage of 14%.
Considering that the house edge is so small for the Banker’s Hand, if a player were to win that bet they would have to pay the house a 5% commission on the winnings of that hand. For example if a player puts down $10 on the Banker’s Hand and that player wins the bet they will win $10, or a 1 to 1 payout. But the player will have to pay a commission of 50 cents, which is 5%, from the $10 they won on that hand.
Baccarat is a game that moves very quickly and in order for the game to keep moving quickly the dealer will not immediately collect the commission from the player that wins the Banker Hand after each hand is complete. The dealer will tally up the amount that the player owns in commission from winning on the Banker’ Hand and collect after the shoe is complete or when that player decides to stand up and leave the table.
