In most big towns and cities in the U.K. one can see CCTV cameras almost everywhere and, like it or not, they are here to stay. Do you feel your privacy is being invaded upon, and on such a large scale it is unacceptable, or do you, like me, welcome it because if you haven’t committed an offence you have nothing to fear? Do you agree with me that the surveillance in our towns and cities is necessary and the benefits of it outweigh any objections?

I wish we had them here. I often see crime
shows from the U.K, where the use of CCTV
has helped the police inordinately, to apprehend
and prosecute criminals. It has even helped in
abduction cases. There seems to be no downside.
The first place I'd mount them here though, is at
traffic intersections. The number of people running
red lights is staggering and you have to pause a second
or two when your light turns green, to be sure you won't
be T-boned!

I am sorry I am late marking up. I found your views generally in line with what most of us feel. Thank you.
I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
We sure could use some here,(the 11th most unsafe city in the country)(U.S.)(Cleveland,Ohio).We have a few in our downtown area, but only around the sports venues. What this city perfers to spend it's (camera) money on is to watch traffic, because it brings money in for the city.Yes I'd like to see more cameras watching for crime, but I guess you have to ask yourself, who's watching "big brother"as he's watching you?.........BTW,did anyone see the video of the women driving up onto the sidewalk to get around a school bus? Well thats the sad place I call home, and even more sad is in a time gone by we used to be one of the great cities of this country. :(

CR_ Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it.
To itsmee_ Thank you for your positive comment.
To both of you- A merry Christmas and a happy new year.
I don’t mind being known by our government. I am not a criminal and I have nothing to hide. I’m a simple honest person. I have an axe or two to grind but if those responsible are not going to be forth coming on those subjects then they prefer to keep the opinion they have, even if full of errors. Buried shame ripens with age and becomes increasingly difficult to hide. In many ways this is better because it reveals jack-legs from competence by failures.

As much as I would like all video-cameras on line, the potential for criminal abuse is not acceptable. Loupe monitors that record over events on a daily or weekly basis with compressed, queued transmission have been developed about the size of a child’s crayon and some are much smaller.
