A question for you, were the farmers present and was it a working farm first, or did it begin after you already resided there? The reason I ask, is that the farmer may be grandfathered and thus allowed to look, smell, perform, and probably "sound" like a farm. At least in my state, that is the law. Besides, they may be doing you a favor too, if you live next door, and they are disturbing a type of bird with that cannon, it is thus not there to bother your property either. We had a problem with Turkey Vultures which became so bad that the homeowner (on 4 acres of property) had to abandon their property. They could not bother the vultures once they had set up to nesting on their property, as they are a protected species. When they went out of the house, they would defecate on them, their cars, animals, etc. It became a health hazard, their well was condemned, and they could not even sell the property. They moved out, and let it go to foreclosure! If they used a cannon, it would have deterred them from nesting there, and it would have changed everything! Remember, No Farmers, No Food! Maybe if you visit them, telling them nicely that it disturbs you, and ask them if they could change the timing, etc. they will come up with a compromise!
