    A group of numbers has an average. Is that the same as a mean or a median?

    The average is the sum of all the numbers divided by the total number.  For example:


    2 4 6 7 9  has an average of 5.6


    The median is the middle score of the set.  So the median is 6 


    The mode is the most frequently occurring score.  There is no mode in this data set.  Now the following numbers:   2 2 2 4 6 has a mode of 2 


    The mean, median and mode are referred to as measures of central tendency.
