If you're really worried about the temp in the engine install an after market guage.Ford temp guages are notoriously unreliable.Don't fall into the trap of thinking a colder engine is better than a warmer one.The trick is to get your engine running as warm as possible without actually boiling.I know I'm like you (I think) because I am totally paranoid about overheating, but unless the engine boils you don't have much to worry about. If you want the new originall guage repaired/installed you are best advised to take it to an auto electrician or someone who is familiar with dismounting dash panels. On the other end installing a new sender which is screwed into the head is a relatively simple operation.
