I wish that we could actually help others do what would improve their lives from an outside perspective, it's easier to look at someone else and say you need to do this or that, but the difficult thing is to look at ourselves and enact change.

I struggle each day with trying to make changes in my life to improve myself or my situation. I hope that your boyfriend will resolve his past with your help.

These things take time, facing your problems will help you accept your past and hopefully learn from your mistakes. It's not your responsibility to make another person happy in life, that's entirely up to them. No matter what you do, eventually you will find yourself drained and fed up with trying to keep another happy.

All you can do is your best to make helpful suggestions, and be supportive of him, if you love him. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. Remember that you are responsible for your own happiness first.

Maybe you can find a counselor who specializes in the field of his problem. I hope you can get the past resolved with him, remember to live for today, it sounds to me like you really care. That's a good thing, hope everything works out for you both.
