how do find out why my 1999 plymouth breeze quit while driving on freeway and won't start?

I was driving about  70 mph with lights on nothing else and my car quit. I tried to restart with only starter turning over no luck. I also have a half tank of gas.

When the starter turned over, was it strong or did it weaken and then quit turning? If this is the case then your alternator is bad as it is not charging the battery. Or it could be a loose alternator belt, check the belt and make sure it's tight. Running your headlights would have drained the battery.

Could be the timing belt and or fuel pump.

    Have they ever been replaced?

Maybe it needs a new battery? We had a 1999 Dodge Caravan and it had the same problem. Course, I doubt you can get a new battery if you're pulled over on the freeway...
