Question 1
A car has tires of outer diameter 600 mm. The car can achieve a speed of 120
km h in 15.7 seconds while accelerating from rest with a constant acceleration.
a) What is the angular acceleration of the tires during acceleration?
b) Find the angular speed of the tires 5.0 seconds after the car started to move?
c) What was the angular speed, frequency and the period of rotational motion at the
end of the acceleration?
d) What was the tangential speed of a particle on the outer rim of the tyre 3.0 s after
start?
Question 2
How many revolutions do the tires make while accelerating the car? Solve this by finding
out the total angular displacement of the tyre, and dividing this by the amount of angular
displacement corresponding to one full revolution.
Question 3
A compact disk of diameter 120 mm is rotating at 380 rpm. Find the tangential
velocity and the total acceleration of a byte located at a radial distance of
a) 10 mm,
b) 55 mm from the axis of rotation.
