I do not think you can legally, as from what I know (from others, as I have never collected), you are asked if you are receiving any compensation. So as severance pay is indeed compensation, you must declare it. Maybe I am wrong, tell them at the DSS or Dept. of Labor and Training office in your state. Let them determine if you qualify. Many people would not ask, just ignore that fact, and seek benefits as if they did not have that coming in. Let it be known, that if you cannot, and you do take unemployment benefits unlawfully, you are committing a crime, and can be jailed!
