    Spiders make their silk in a gland(s).


    The external part is called the spinneret.


    Spiders make as much silk as they


    need, so in theory it is possible.

    You're solution is quite practical and efficient. The spider would be less at the
    mercy of wind gusts under a 'chute. :)
