I have a 1996 Dodge Dakota Sport 2.5 L OVC engine that turns over but won't catch,

It is a 4 cylinder engine that just will not catch but turns over.

A simple quick way to determine whether or not there is a problem with fuel delivery or spark, is to remove air filter and spray a short blast of ether into body of air intake. Keep it short, so as to not damage fuel injectors.

If the engine starts to catch while running on the ether fumes, you have a fuel problem such as the possibility of a failed fuel pump or fuse. (Most likely pump.)

If it doesn't start to try and run on the ether fumes, then you have an ignition problem.

This gives you your direction to start finding out why it won't run. Good luck!

We have fuel but no spark in the distributor so I think we have got it down to either the ignition coil or the distributor stator/module.
