Knowing when to get unpluged, or when to stop the treatments.

Quality of life for me is how you live. If you are existing but not living e.g.(almost dead), then there is no quality of life but if you are getting out there, doing as much as you can in your everyday life, then your quality of life is excellent.

I think that this question will have a different answer from each person, especially if about our own loved ones.   This is why the medical profession urges people to sign a DNR or such order (do not rusticate), so that when the time comes, the doctors have a clear path of understanding from the family.  These such decisions can be modified to please your desires and control what will and will not be done when that person is nearing death.

Quality of Life

 The United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948, provides an excellent list of factors that can be considered in evaluating quality of life. It includes many things that citizens of the United States and other developed countries take for granted, but that are not available in a significant number of countries around the world. Although this declaration is 60 years old, in many ways it still represents an ideal to be achieved, rather than a baseline state of affairs.
