12 Ga. double barreled shotgun instantly stops anything coming at you, and you shouldn't miss with it. But also, you have alot of versatility in the different loads for it that are readily available. The simplicity of their design is also good for people who are not familiar with more complicated firearms. You should learn at least the basics of gun safety though, if you are not familiar with them.

You should also make sure you are willing to use it to protect yourself and your family. Otherwise, it becomes a weapon for the intruder.
I have a 12 Ga. single barrel. It holds 6 shells. 6 chances to bring them down. I would never let anything suffer.

Everyone is writing shotgun, that seems to be the answer of the day. I believe in the right to bear arms but I don't think they belong in every household............

A shotgun has a lot more stopping power than a hand gun, you don't need to be as accurate a shot, they are usually less expensive, and in most places don't require a permit to own. It is what I've asked my daughter to get for her safety. You are right about not everyone should have one, but the sane and reasonable should because we don't have control of the insane and vicious.
I support but do not own a gun! If I wanted one, I would like the right to have it though, and our constitution says yes to it! At least now, before liberals take this away...
I've owned several. They all ended up with bluing inside. Never cleaned them. I can shoot a gun, just don't take care of them.....
If you run out of bullets, you can use the shot gun as a club and beat them over the head with it.
