No question our prison system is a sad farce. What kinds of changes should be made? How do you follow through?
I'm thinking that perhaps prisons should be sorted by the type of crime and the housing within by ethnicity. I am in favor of rehabilitative efforts and post-release follow-up in facilitating a successful reintroduction to society.
I don't have the answer as to HOW this could be done. I'm working on it, though. Just the 16 months that I've followed my son in county jails has been a big eye-opener. The courts don't get the attention needed to show us that the problems begin right there. Waiving time should have SOME limits!

The prisons here work within a strict framework, some being reserved for the very worst and violent offenders, some with minimum security, some appear to be just on a roundabout,do their time re commit and back in,but there are programs, follow ups, and parole officers employed to keep ex cons on the straight and narrow, they are provided with training where possible and supported to gain employment and acceptance back into society, early prison release here is carefully considered and the parole board have to be sure beyond a doubt the prisoner is ready to start a fresh life, they are both supervised and monitored, there will however always be some that abuse the system or fall through the cracks
