I blame it upon the introduction of Phonics into the classroom.
Il est devenu froid pour épeler des mots comment ils sonnent plutôt que de la façon dont ils doivent être écrits.

I was married to a German for many moons. A lot of German words actually are French.
What is very disturbing is I could read and understand your entire question! Texting has not helped spelling correctly one bit. However, it has helped figuring out what the bleep people are trying to say..unless they use a lot of initials BTWROFL@UrQ!!!!!!

It appears that Ducky has hired Umbriel to ensure that no one uses more than their alloted ! per answer. PPftt I say Ppfft!!!!!!!!!!!
Its because we all have slang rather than use "Proper text" we tend to become lazy.
I found this all started when they brought in cordless remote controls for Televisions LOL ..
Its just not proper :)))

Ya think that question can be answered simply? There are a multitude of reasons and excuses for poor spelling and grammar.
Sending Friday's math quiz home to be corrected every Monday evening, I was appalled on Tuesday when Jessica's answers were still incorrect. Rather than embarrass her in front of the whole class, I called her aside, found out what she didn't understand, and sent the quiz home with her yet again.
Speaking with her mother that afternoon (Tuesday), I mentioned my concern with the math quiz. Mom said (and I quote), "I knew she didn't do them right. I didn't want to damage her self-esteem by telling her they were still wrong".

it is because your are under a spell. you spell exactly as you hear the words and the way you speak. Maybe you are spelling words correctlly and we are the ones spelling the words wrong.

One of the main reason for the poor spelling is that in the 80s, or 90s, our educ system came up with the "brilliant " ( not ) idea of letting early elem kids spell words anyway they want. It's called " creative spelling " and by doing so,.... that gave kids the life-long message that they can spell a word anyway they want , as long as it approximates the way it sounds. The teachers don't draw lines on the board anymore to show the kids how certain letters must have the tale of the letter go below the line,......and other letters, such as d and b have the stem go up abve the body of the letter. That is why kids print a lower case g up over the line, instead of ON the line......The tale of the g should go under the line. Some teachers leave out subjects that they don't like. When I did student teaching , in the 80s, my critic teacher ( a man ) said, " I don't teach grammer and puncuation, b/c I don't lke it " His thing was math. He smelled strongly like whiskey every morning. And he said, " I don't make the kids do book reports, because I hated it when I was a kid. "
