He thinks it's another bird, probably a male bird.  He's just trying to get rid of the enemy in order to keep all the female birds to himself.   There's no fool like an old (male bird) fool.

I think he wants to be fed & watered. What's more I think he needs a new home. Rush to the pet store and buy a beautiful cage and all the foods he will need. It would be a good idea to ask a vet if a wild bird can truly be happy in a cage. I have wanted a Canary for years. Then again, I think he's fallen in love with his reflection.

If a canary were pecking at my window, I would put a feeder nearby for him, and a birdhouse.

He/she sees his/hers reflection and thinks that there is another bird there. Or, if the bird is outside, and the weather is hot, figures that maybe it is cooler inside, because he/she feels the cool of the glass, and wants to come in.

Didn't you ever hear about the birds and bees?

The bird is probably a MALE seeing his reflection in the window and considering it a competitor for food or lady birds, WBMG
