Congratuations 4x4! Prepare for a Big change!
I think all goodbye notices (retirement, moving-on) should begin( or end) with a Thank You to the management and HR for allowing you to work at the company. After that, a polite notice that in 10 weeks ( or more) you plan to retire from your position/ the company with the last date you will be working noted.
Other things you can add- especially if you have worked at the same co. for all 50 years or a long time: Memories from the past- special employees/management that helped you build your carreer- pls. include your current boss in this- even if it seems a stretch. Changes in the co over the years- expansions, but-outs, computerization, etc: this helps to personalize it and remind HR/personelle that you have worked there a long time and through a lot of changes. I know someone who copied photos of themself with people in the co. that they had- fifty years ago, fourty, thirty....
Of course some of this is for your direct boss and some is for Human Resources or the Personelle office.
Hey, Have a great retirement!
Also: make sure that you have time to apply and get medicare with schedule D in place by the time you retire (if applicable) and that social security will be in place too.
