Up until today I had never heard anything of this. I realize everyone makes mistakes, and during the occurence of a major war, everyone swept into it is either on one side or the other. But, I have to admit that how someone could have risen to the position of Pope of the Catholic Church from Nazi beginnings, somewhat completely dumbfounds me! This honestly leaves me wondering how exactly should I look at this...as it makes me wonder how I would look at the man, if I was able to look into the man's eyes at this very moment. I suppose understanding is in order, for I imagine there were many swept into a very horrible set of circumstances.

Yes, anyone who has heard of the 'draft' and Hitler knows that all children in pre-war Germany, after Hitler assumed the role of Chancelor , must join the 'Hitler Jugend', (Hitler's Youth), and were liable to conscription into the German Armed Forces upon reaching 'draft' age. It was about the same as being in the Boy Scouts or being drafted into the US Armed Forces. It 'happened to you' and told nothing of your natural political leanings.
