Investments are dependent on the daily economy. We can not rely on the economy so I personally would not rely on any investment other than precious metals and even then the prices could drop in a heartbeat. 

Your best investment has always been in yourself. Keep that in mind when considering your options. My view is purely speculative and my success in the stock market would be outstanding if my intent was to loose every dime I put into it.  So my advice is probably wrong, but it seems to me that if someone were to comes up with a cheap, non-polluting energy source like water, we will all be subject to a huge flood of money resulting from the fact that we would not be spending all our money on petroleum. Thus a rise in cost of everything to suck-up all that extra cash and pretty soon we’ll be right back where we are presently. I don’t know if that helps, but I would not be buying oil stocks. Of course, my financial acumen remains road-kill presently.
