    What a truly horrible "sentence".  Beyond the fact that it is not grammatically correct, it doesn't make much sense, either.  
    The researcher, along with his assistants, explained the claim was true. (Still too weird)

    It's grammatical, for the most part, but it's poorly worded. The syntax is off, and some of the punctuation is missing.


    You could say something like,   ........The researcher, with the help of his assistants, explained how this claim is true.

    It's possible the syntax is "ok", but you are dead on right about the punctuation!
