John Lennon when he quoted 'The Beatles were more popular than Jesus, which caused an uproar in the U.S. only -- personally i don't think he meant this comment as Blasphemous.

I'm not thinking Jesus a celebrity, but Elizabeth Taylor comes to mind, lots of bling and lots of husbands, some classic films i.e national velvet, Cleopatra, who's afraid of Virginia wolf etc etc

Johann Gutenberg help bring to the masses the age of enlightenment and reason, being able to read the Bible in their own language instead of the dead language of latin of which only the wealth and clergy knew, abled the layman to question different aspects of the bible they were preached did not excist and was used as a tool to inspire control and fear.
