Any suggestions on how to find a home for an unwanted pet?

Trying to find a home for our dog, she is a mutt, she is very well tempered. We actually have 2 kids that she loves dearly and that love her dearly. She needs to go somewhere she will be loved and well cared for. Me and the kids are very upset by her having to go I just am out of options now. I really don't want to take her to the pound or humane society. I really want to find her a good home. She looks like a german shepherd but she is only about 45-50 pounds, coloring is the same as a shepherd, she is so smart and well trained.

You should consider flying her to ROMOS...he's got a good heart and your pup would have a great adventure over in Scotland! Then you'd have family overseas as well ! Think of the postcards !

Why do you not want to take her to the Humane Society? That is exactly what their job is and from many reports, they do it extremely well.

@ lindilou: You do realize dogs need to be treated with a chemical that kills fleas, don't you? :o)

Join an animal rescue site on facebook or there are lots of others where you could advertise put notices up at the vet, hopefully her a new home..

There are No-Kill- Shelters just about in every state. I dont know where you live. You can put flyers in your local businesses or your Vets office. I would not hand over my dog to someone I dont know. I would check them out first. No-Kill-Shelters would be my first choice. In case your problem is with Vetinary care, there is "Vetinary financial aid" available. Hopefully you make your choice based on his need and welfare.

I am a little bit against shelters since I don´t think that dogs get enough human contacts there.

So If I were you I would put up free dog signs BUT I would be very careful for who I give it to and maybe follow up and just make sure that the dog is being good taking care of and not abused by any kind.

Good luck and I really hope that you find a good home for your dog!
