choose carefully, the dog may require things you are unable to provide, if you want a child's pet the breed would be different to that of a dog you wished to guard your property, is it to be an inside or outside puppy, short hair or the grooming long haired dogs require, how much time do you have to spend with the dog and how much time does the new dog need, my personal choice is a kelpie, but they are not for everyone.

My opinion here is bias as i own a Staffordshire Bull Terrior, the staffies are a beautiful dog to own, gentle around kids, loyal to their owner, they are content to just sit with you.Any dog is a great companion, but to me, staffies are the best.

Ohhh, a Golden Retriever like my Annie.  Ed has a good idea too and he has a camera. : )

A pet is only the best if you treat them that way.

My dog is booful, however we live in a neighbourhodl that freaks out if they see a dog, he's a laborador, wouldn't hurt anyone, but yes he is hard yakka, however am hoping he will fit into the street, which he has, but am always on edge just if.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  My vote goes to the shitzu poodle.  Best dog for me because I want to allow inside the house and has plenty of advantages.  Great little friend, doesn't yap, and doesn't drop hair.  I love the Golden Lab but just a bit big for me.  I also love Staffies but the are a bit boisterous and doesn't suit my lifestyle.
