           12% is 12/100   is .12     
          12.5% is 125/1000 is .125   
           You divide the percentage by 100.

            12/100 Divide. You get less than 1. You get .12 or 12/100 (6/50)
            12.5/100 Divide. You get less than 1. You get .125 or 125/1000 (1/8)

            .125:  Move the decimal point 2 digits to the left and drop the percentage sign.

              1.0 = 100%, therefore let me make you a simple formula   Percent = Decimal x 10^2  12%= 0.12 x 10^2
