It's the Sax that is easier to learn without mentorship! Trumpeters can easily hurt themselves without one on one instructions from a teacher.I personally know a few marvelous self taught saxaphone players and also recall many who after school were headed for trumpet lessons. For what it's worth, here is a page full of links supporting my response and Peace>>>>http://www.bing.com/search?q=Which%20is%20harder%20to%20teach%20yourself%20how%20to%20play%20saxaphone%20or%20trumpet%3F&pc=conduit&ptag=G226-AA86C9977A80442CA91F&form=CONOMX&conlogo=CT3210127&ShowAppsUI=

Probably the trumpet is harder, b/c you have to have a really good oumbesure (sp) , which means lip positions. There are only 3 keys on the trumpet. The rest of the notes are made up of different tighting of the lips, etc.
