is it okay if a cop follows you home and issues you a ticket after you come out of your house without turning his lights or siren on?

if not what is that called?

Probably not, either way you'll have your day in court..

I don't think a cop has to have his lights going or the siren on, just has to be there when the "crime" is/has been going on.....

I think it possibly may be, a friend who was in her driveway and had not started her car, but had placed the keys in the ignition was booked, she had had a few drinks and was booked with "intent to drive" she had her day in court and lost, she had claimed to be checking her radio, but  the penalty none the less was upheld

Good thinking on her part anyhow......

If the offence was intent to drive or driving under the influence they need to get you before you walk into a home...of course if you ran to evade them that would be another thing.  Without knowing what you were arrested for it is very hard to say.

    Yes.
