    not only but it was useful in battle, a carriage horse, it is noted as the largest of all horse breeds, it stands about 19 hands high at he withers.  (1 hand = 4 in., or 3 hands = 1 foot)  So he stood about 6 feet and 4 inches at his withers!  (the withers are on the top of his back up where the neck joins the back).  They weigh in at about 1500-2000 lbs.  Massive!  Just picture a knight riding a large draft horse, it was probably a shire...

    Shire horse is old British workhorse .
