This Q varies a lot depending on your age and your date's age...and what is important to you.

Ask open-ended questions like "The things you would like to do during your spare time and why?".  This way you'll get to learn more about the person. 

Bottom line: do NOT try to be interesting, BE INTERESTED instead!

What about "Has anybody ever told you how beautiful you are?"  Try that for starters.

I would ask Are you married or in a relationship right now? Are you going to school? Do you work?
