NO, that doesn't mean you have to pay child support. A COURT ORDER means you have to pay child support. You can choose to ignore that court order, you can work for "cash under the table" to avoid garnishment, and you can move to a different state, which I think some creep planned to do not too long ago. (Anyone remember that guy besides me?)
The very interesting thing, at least in California, that debt doesn't vanish when the child(ren) reach(es) maturity. It is a debt you owe and the court itself will go after you. If your children were on social welfare rolls, you can bet that debt isn't going to go away.
I know men who are paying child support arrears in California and Oklahoma. The OK arrears are being collected from him where he lives now, Colorado. All the kids are well into their 20's.

If the mother does not want child support from you, then I can not imagine a judge forcing you to pay unless she applies for state help.

She may not want your money she may actually just want her child to have there fathers name on the certificate.
