    Is it true that mother turtles eat their young under certain circumstanses?

    Not true. Turtles lay their eggs and bury them. They then leave. The mother is not usually around when the eggs hatch. Some turtles like the snapper will eat dead baby turtles but they do this to help keep the lake or river clean.  

    I know they breath through their butts..

    Thank heavens they only eat jellyfish and NOT their babies!!!

    Maybe not turtles, but Rabbits will eat their young if stressed shortly after delivery.  Some in fact, are habitual at this and will be "retired" from breeding for this reason.
