Uncultivated land in the tropics naturally becomes forested.
The tropics are warmer than the neighbouring zones. The warm air there rises and is replaced by cooler air from the neighbouring regions.
This rising air ia associated with low pressure, instability and hence rain. Rainfall of 200 cm is considered to be typical at the low end of the range for tropical rain forests.
