      State commonly refers to either the present condition of a system or entity, or to a governed entity (such as a country) or sub-entity (such as a province or region).   (Wikipedia)
      Examples:       He was in a state of confusion after hearing conflicting stories.   He is now the governor of the state of California.  I heard him state on the news that he wants to be the king of the United States. 
      (State also means to make known, to proclaim)
