    Whoes a Wally???

Rod Stewart is a "friend" of mine, we used to travel with the same company to see the Scotland International football team away games, we still send Christmas cards, the only problem I have with him is he supports CELTIC FC, not exactly my favourites.

    Dardaigh

Oh, my Maggie May guy. You are one lucky man, K!
    ROMOS

Never seen him for years, but as I say the Xmas card always turns up, probably his PA sends them but they're always personally signed.

I love Rod Stewart! He always seemed like such a cool guy to me and he sure is a big soccer fan. The last time I saw him interviewed, he said he still plays a lot too.
    ROMOS

Yep, he plays for Robbie Williams' Brit team in LA, not bad for 60+.
    hector5559

I SAW HIS OTHER HALF ON DANCING WITH THE STARS,SHE DONE VERY WELL,

When I was VERY young, I was leaning on a car with my hands behind me to keep the dirt off of my coat. The Secret Service made me move away, Lyndon Johnson was in the car...........Artist Amado Pena was my high school art teacher..........

You'd never get that close to a Presidential car nowadays.

Like I wrote, this was years ago......

I spent four or five hours talking with and being entertained in a small club by B.B. King and Lucille(his guitar). He is a very classy, very gentle and genuine man who does not flaunt his fame nor ego!...Another time,my brother and I were blasting up a dirt backroad to his ranch when we saw a long white limo crawling down the hill toward us,so we slowed right down and stopped window to window with the back seat and the window rolled down and we were blown away because there,as big as life itself was Johnny Cash and June Carter beaming at us from the back seat!!Johnny said"Hi there!I'm Johnny Cash and this is my wife June!"...and my swift brother says"Well howdy Johnny!I'm Monty "Smith" and this is my sweet sister Lindi Lou!"He told us to come see them at the club"The Red Barn",a huge C&W dance club in the middle of Bison country! What a hoot! Thanks for asking!:)

I love Allan Rickman, Fishie. Not the Harry Potter stuff. Never seen them.

Milton Berle, in the Holiday Inn in Meriden CT, , Mike Douglas, at a theatre in CT. and last but not least Frank Sinatra and his wife in a Restaurant in NH.

    hector5559

    Did you get thier autographs,??
    dowsa

NO. I gave them "MINE" Didn`t YOU ANN.

For me it was the infamous  Joe Strummer formely of the the clash (the only band that matters) as well as a few different enities including the Pouges . It was late night in B-town after one of his gigs , we all waited around a bar called the channel for him to show up...Wrong bar  so i and my brother hightailed our butts to JJ folleys and just when every one was leaving in walks the messiah himself, i played it cool like he was no big deal, when the time was right i cracked a joke muck to his amuse, he bought me a pint and we sat down, two and a half hours later we we arm in arm crying "I love you man" he even drew me a pitchure on the inside of a pack of marlboros  of the Brittish navy shooting at the US navy wich I still have to this day.....Ask me about my encounter with Iggy POP , i kid you not..

    ROMOS

    Class ma man, CLASS.

They do a great rendition of Dirty ole town, perhaps my favorite..
    Dardaigh

Yep, gotta give you that one. Shane MacGowan does the song justice.

Waltzing Matilda gives me shivers every time I hear it.

None cos you qualified it with greetings and handshakes and high fives and belly bumps.

I met Troy Donahue in an elevator in a police station while I was being transported to the county jail. I couldn't shake his hand as I was handcuffed from behind. I asked if he could autograph my shirt, one of the detectives transporting me gave him a pen and they started laughing as he signed my shirt. I remembered him as a young man, his age was showing. I still have the shirt.

    Dardaigh

Wow, Troy Donohue! Cool story, Ed. What was Troy in for? lol
He was a big heartthrob for me as a young teenager. My favourite movie with him in it was "A Summer Place", co-starring Sandra Dee. I guess he had big trouble with the bottle as the years passed.
    ed shank

Troy was starring in a movie they were filming in the town I was living in at the time. The film had a police story line, and he was being shown the processing procedures of the cop shop in that town. I also met Rosa Parks several times. She had relatives who lived directly across the street from me. We both ate ribs and cornbread together at several BB Q's. She was an absolutely wonderful lady and it was an honor to be on a first name basis with her.
    Dardaigh

Wow, that is so cool! :)

I met Charlie Pride, when I attended his  concert in UK, I was so trilled to shake hands with him, but to shy to talk much. A couple years later I saw him in Nashville, as he was special guest, I only got to see him from distance, but even so it was so exciting.

    dowsa

Great singer .I believe the only black artist to break into country

I once nearly spoke to one of the cast of Coronation Street,he was opening a shop in town. The reason i didnt is because i knewn the name of the soap character,i couldnt remember the actors.Does this count???

Shook hands with two Communist Romanian dictators when they visited the factory  where I was working. Ceausescu was the second of them and some of you might have heard oh him. During the same period of time I shoook hands and actually had more than one conversation with Ion Iliescu who later, after the fall of communism, became the 1st President on the noncommunist Romania at which time I was out of Romania for more than 11 years.

    digger

I didn't know you were Romanian. I bet you felt like wrapping your hand around their necks instead.
    valR

I was Romanian. I am a proud and happy American now. You are 50% right, I felt like like wrapping my two hands around their necks :)
    ed shank

My stepfather was Romanian. A good guy but a temper that Satan wouldn't mess with. He passed away recently. I miss him alot.
    valR

I can relate to the "temper" part... What was his name and do you know where in Romania was he from?
    ed shank

Valr, His name was Alex (Alexandre), he was from Bucharest. I have to add that he was the strongest man I ever met. At 5'-10" approx. 185 LBS. He was awesome. He escaped with six others, four of whom were shot and killed while swimming across a river. I listen to stories similar and I thank God that we live here.

It was the chap who plays Kirk, the actor may be Andrew something?

    Dardaigh

Kirk Sutherland alias Andrew Whyment. Very nice, LM.

Santa Claus...he even let me sit on his lap!   :)

    Dardaigh

    Ha ha ha...me too! :)

    Was it an uplifting exprience??

    lindilou

HO HO HO HO HO!!! :D

I have avoided fame all of my life so that I can live an ordinary life. The price of fame is that you are met by folk you have never come to know and cherish,  who express admiration for what they think you did before you know them whatsoever. Many will judge a famous person based on hearsay and act on that heresy regardless, it’s merit or lack of merit without question. Fame robs a person of their freedom of self expression by implicating all that has been done in the past too. I remain Anonymous and in that, without a whispered memory to plague me to my grave I have the luxuary to live in the open light of day.

When I was growing up in WV in the early 70s I lived across the street from a bar that was converted into a recording studio.  As a teen, I used to hang out with the owner after school and watch the recording.  Mostly they were local artists, but I did meet some artists like John Sebastian, John Denver, Glen Campbell and BJ Thomas.

    Dardaigh

John Sebastian? "You and me and rain on the roof, caught up in a summer shower..." I always liked the Lovin' Spoonful.
    lindilou

Yah John Sebastion...What a day for a daydream...! Love it too Russrocks!

LA Dodgers Frank Howard and Chuck Essegian, local TV personality AL Radka, rat packer Dean Martin, and Bob Newhart.

    digger

They say Dean wasn't at all a drinker. I find that hard to believe for a chain smoker. Wouldn't mind having dinner with Dino back in the day.
    Bob/PKB

I heard that, too, and think the cocktail glass was a prop, for no good reason.
What I remember about him is how gracious and kind he was, actually talking with my parents'other child and me. I still have the 8 x 10 B/W glossy he autographed for me, probably 50 years ago. Having dinner with him would have been a pleasure!

MY,Dad met Errol Fliyne ,once, and had to carry Jaqie Colleens ,down form the roof, for showing to much, and knew most of the stars,

    hector5559

    no,the 20th century,
    hector5559

He said he was quite genurous with his money, unlike Max Bygraves,a tight wad,

When I was VERY young, I leaned up against a car with my hands behind me to keep to dust off my coat. The secret service made me move as LBJ was inside……..
