Wondering if I can paint my kitchen??

I posted this question earlier, and somehow I think I cleared my questions out, so I'm gonna repost it. I have an older house, when a very outdated kitchen and am wanting to update so that we can eventually sell. I am including a picture of my kitchen walls, the front view and the view that I see of the back of it when standing on the basement stairs. Im not sure what the material of the wall is, it's just on the top half of the kitchen. It almost reminds me of cork, or of particle board. The pattern on it, isn't wallpaper, it's actually on/in the wall. I'm trying to figure out if I can paint over it. Someone posted some suggestions and I was going to get them pictures, but i cleared my questions, so I hope maybe I can still get some assistance :)""

you are right. we're juggling all kinds of idea. we're in the process of redoing the bathroom. and the hall upstairs. he already redid the floors in the living room and dining room. and we're going to replace the kitchen floor. We are debating whether we want to just "fix it up" to make it look nicer, or redo the entire kitchen. He bought the house with no heat, and installed new furnace a/c and duct work. of course this was before he met me and now together we have 3 kids and are planning a wedding. we just decided that, when the time comes to do the kitchen, we will see what $ we do have saved. and go from there. redoing the entire kitchen is probably what we will do. I was just curious, if I could paint it in the meantime, cuz i hate yellow. lol. and I just want a "nicer" looking kitchen for the time being.

    Good answer :)

I suggest using Kilz first.  It is a primer that covers almost everything in one coat.  Then I would choose a nice semi-gloss paint to cover the Kilz.

Hello, I would guess that you have a laminate covered wallboard there.  Can you paint ?  You can paint just about anything on the planet.  Should you paint to sell ?  I would replace with the newer lightweight drywall then paint :)  ^v^

Definite yes! Paint it if you are living in it and hate yellow i would. The wallboard may have textured surface, try the dual color wall paint treatments it would look nice. The Tuscany treament is great for kitchens.
