    x+14=-12

    Get (x) to itself on the left side. So, do the opposite of addition which is subtraction, and subtract 14 from the left and right side.

    x + 14 - 14 = -12 - 14

    x = -12 - 14

    Note:  A minus sign in front of a positive number makes that number negative. So, you will add the numbers.  -12 + -14 = -26

    Answer:  x = -26

    Check answer:  Put (-26) in place of (x) in the problem.

    -26 + 14 = -12

    Note:  A negative number plus a positive number is negative/positive depending which number is bigger. You will subtract.

    -26 + 14 =  -12

        -12       =  -12
