My humble answer to this question is inspired by the King James version of the Holy Bible. In the Bible the word antichrist is seldom used but rather the word whore is used in its stead in the book of Revelation. In chapter 19 of the book of Revelation, God casts judgement upon the great whore. (verse 2...For true and righteous are his judgements for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand...V3...and again they said allelu'ia and her smoke rose up forever and ever) my interpretation of this is that God passed judgement on the great whore who corrupted the earth and condemned her to hell to burn for eternity. If I am not mistaken,  the role of the antichrist is to corrupt the earth. But who, oh who is this great whore who is so adept at corruption? For a detailed description of the great whore one can turn to chapter 17 of the book of Revelation (i would type the whole thing but for the sake of brevity i will point out and later explain a few key verses) verse 4...And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication ...V6... and i saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when i saw her i wondered with great admiration....V9...And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth....V12 and the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast...V15...And he saith unto me,the waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth,are peoples, and multitudes, and nations and tongues....V18 and the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.....it may seem that i have taken these verses out of context and will twist their meaning to make my point but if you have a brain stem and actually read the whole chapter you will see this is not the case.

Here we go...purple and scarlet robes are donned in most catholic ceremonies in Vatican city, the pope has access to the most money, precious stones and pearls on Earth.

The catholic church is well known to recognize and pray to saints and the martyrs of Jesus.

The woman sits on her post of seven mountains, Vatican City is located in Rome, Italy. Rome is also well known as the city of seven hills ( there are other "cities of seven hills" but that term is most commonly associated with Rome).

Before the end of times the bible prophesies that there indeed will be only ten kingdoms on the earth ( not ten countries but ten kingdoms) many scholars believe these kingdoms have already begun to form starting with the European Union officially formed under this name in 1993. with its origins beginning in 1958. The EU has been heavily influenced by the catholic church since its inception. There are other Unions (or kingdoms) well on their way.

The fact that Catholicism is one of the worlds largest religions plays right into verse 15 and needs no explanation. 

Finally in verse 18 "the great city that reigneth over the kings of the earth" is there any institution other than the catholic church, that the Kings of the earth willingly submit to that is also a city?.....I challenge anyone to disprove that the catholic church is indeed the antichrist.
