    im assuming that the cooling system is topped off and no coolant leaks. next step is to replace the thermostat. note that the housing is maade of plastic and it may break . if your bmw has alot of miles it may be smart to just replace the housing at the same time. if your car still overheats and usually on the highway, then it is possible that your bmw has a bad head gasket or a cracked cylinder head. there are a few tests that need to be done before the cylinder head is condemed.
