      I use TAR (in Linux) and have no problems at all.

        PKZIP for Unix currently runs on SPARC Solaris 2.x, Digital Unix, IBM AIX, SCO Unix, HP-UX, and Linux operating systems. PKZIP 2.51 for Unix is now available, with enhanced features such as viewing and extracting from TAR, GZIP, UUencode, XXencode, MIME and BinHex file formats, creating self-extracting files, and much more.
