The Knights of Columbus, created in 1881 by Father Michael Mc Givney. It only allowed practising Catholics, to advance the social and economic status of the faithful. Exists in the UK as the Knights of St Columba.
Sounds like a Catholic version of the Freemasons, so exists largely as an organisation for old guys to get away from their women.
