    Where does the saying, " I'll have to drop you a line" come from

    It has to do with making a telephone call. I'd drop you a line (meaning I'll call you later). Before cellphones and computers, we relied on telephone lines to contact each other by way of speaking , not writing. 

    I wish i knew as well as google, my guess is an ex lover..

    how about a (writen on one line) sentence?
