As the others said, a healthy diet including fruit, vegetables, water. Also, daily exercise and very important, less salt. Check nutrition labels and notice how much salt is included in just about every product! Of course, no smoking, a necessity to improve ANY health issue.

Well now, my husband's blood pressure is also very high. A friend of ours, who is a naturapath, told him to eat lots of fruit, brightly coloured, and only eat salads with a little chicken. After three weeks his blood pressure was normal. It's your lifestyle.
He doesn't like salads and he's not keen on fruit, he kept to the diet for a few months. Then he broke loose and went back to his old ways. Blood pressure up once again.

Have an internal medicine doctor prescribe meds based on a blood panel work-up. There are factors affecting blood pressure that has little to do with diet and exercise although these are major factors. My blood pressure was like yours until I wast to a doctor who understood a blood panel and prescribed a med that ended my high and erratic blood pressure completely. I had been taking water pills that required frequent urination but that was a symptom that was not recognized at the time.

A regular schedule of exercise, and rest. Other than medicines which are prescription items from a medic. Get rid of distressing items like husbands who cause stress :). Pack the kids off to camps and presto, seems to work wonders since the causes of blood pressure are gone, other than the genetic kind which can only be cured by prescription drugs. And this is serious and given from personal experience :).
