    why do people refer to counties as shere and not shire

    example people say buckinghamshere when it should be buckinghamshire same way  you pronounce the shire horse.you do not say shere horse.

    Bunny Rabbit, i say shere as that is how we were taught at school, i;ve been told off before by the  British for the wrong pronunciation, old habits die hard. it'd a bit like dance and ,darnce, castle and carstle, depends on what school you went to--- the Americans say anteye (anti-) and i say antee.
