Chevrolet. In 1973 Chevy put it in cars for the government. The '73 Olds Toronado was the first passengercar with airbags sold to the public.
But, actually the 1951 Tucker was the first car to EVER have airbags. And, it was sold to the public. The Tucker also was the first car to have seatbelts and headlights that turned with the front wheels, among many other safety features that are now considered "modern" improvements.
